High Alert For Rahul Gandhi's Yatra; 6 Injured In Jammu Blasts


Six persons were hurt in two explosions that occurred in Jammu this morning, according to the police, increasing fears about the security of Congressman Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

The explosions in an industrial area in Jammu's Narwal neighbourhood happened as the Union territory was being heavily guarded in anticipation of the footmarch. Currently taking a respite, Mr. Gandhi's yatra is over 60 kilometres from Jammu at Chadwal.

According to police, the nature of the explosions has not yet been determined. At the explosion scene are forensic specialists.

Six people were injured in the twin blasts

Six persons were hurt in the twin explosions, according to Mukesh Singh, additional director general of police (Jammu). One of the injured has been reportedly sent urgently to the hospital.

Following the explosions, the area has been closed off and security has been increased. As part of a search operation, vehicles are being inspected.

The Jammu and Kashmir leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra began yesterday and is scheduled to end in Srinagar on January 30. For those taking part in the march, today is a day of relaxation; the march will resume tomorrow in the direction of Jammu.
