G20 Summit ? New Delhi 9-10 September 2023

The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit, which will take place in New Delhi, will be the conclusion of all the G20 procedures and gatherings of ministers, senior officials, and civil society that took place during the year.

At the end of the New Delhi Summit, a G20 Leaders' Declaration will be adopted, outlining the commitment of the Leaders to the priorities discussed and chosen during the relevant ministerial and working group meetings.

What is G20 origin and history?

The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an international forum for governments and central bank governors from 19 countries and the European Union.

It was established in 1999 in response to the financial crises of the late 1990s, with the aim of bringing together the world's major advanced and emerging economies to discuss and coordinate on global economic issues.

The G20 members collectively represent around 75% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and over two-thirds of the world's population.

Some key points about the G20:

1. Members:

The G20 consists of 19 individual countries plus the European Union. The individual members are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

2. Meetings:

The G20 holds regular meetings at various levels, including at the level of leaders (Heads of State or Government), finance ministers, foreign ministers, and central bank governors. The most prominent event is the G20 Summit, where leaders from member countries discuss and address pressing global economic and financial issues.

3. Agenda:

The G20's agenda covers a wide range of topics related to global economic stability, growth, and development. This includes issues such as financial regulation, international trade, digital economy, climate change, sustainable development, and more.

4. Multilateral Cooperation:

The G20 provides a platform for multilateral cooperation and coordination on economic policies and responses to global challenges. It serves as a forum for discussing and reaching agreements on matters of mutual interest and concern.

5. Consensus-Based Decision-Making:

The G20 operates on a consensus-based decision-making model. This means that member countries aim to reach agreements through dialogue and negotiation, with the goal of finding common ground that reflects the interests of all participants.

6. Outcomes:

G20 meetings often result in joint statements, communiqués, and action plans that outline agreed-upon measures and initiatives to address various challenges. These outcomes are meant to guide policy actions at both national and international levels.

7. Engagement:

The G20 also engages with non-member countries and international organizations, recognizing the importance of inclusivity and global cooperation. These engagement groups include the "Engagement Groups," such as the Business 20 (B20), Civil 20 (C20), and Youth 20 (Y20), among others.
