Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a major Hindu festival celebrated in India and other parts of the world. It typically falls in the month of September or October each year, depending on the lunar calendar.
During Vijayadashami celebrations
During Vijayadashami celebrations, clay figurines of Durga Mata, Lakshmi Mata, Saraswati Mata, Ganesha Ji, and Kartikeya are carried in processions to a river or ocean front. The processions are accompanied by music and chants.
Afterward, the idols are submerged in water to symbolise their disintegration and departure. In some locations, enormous effigies of Ravana, a symbol of evil, are set on fire with fireworks to symbolise the demise of evil.
