The brutal murder of a girl in Mehrauli by her male partner was brought to the attention of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday.

How Aaftab killed his live-in partner
On May 18, the suspect, Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, allegedly strangled Shradha, a 26-year-old woman. Police claim that over the course of 18 days, Poonawalla dismembered her body into 35 pieces, purchased a new refrigerator to house them, and dispersed them at various locations. He used to leave the house around two in the morning with a body part in a polybag to escape any suspicion.
In the Mehrauli neighbourhood of south Delhi, the deceased, Shradha, and Poonawalla were residing in a rented apartment. Shradha met Poonawalla while working at a call centre for a large corporation in Mumbai. They began dating and later resided together. Her family, however, disapproved of their connection, so the couple fled and moved to Delhi.

When the victim stopped communicating with her parents, the situation became apparent. Her family also looked at her social media accounts, but there had been no recent posts.
As a result, her father Vikas, a native of Palghar (Maharashtra), became suspicious and travelled to Delhi to check on his daughter. He found her apartment locked when he got there.
After that, he went to the police and reported a missing person. Additionally, he informed the authorities of his daughter's friendship with the accused, Aftab, and their possible connection to his daughter's disappearance.
According to authorities, the accused Poonawalla was put under observation as a result of a father's complaint. The suspect was detained at his Delhi home.
