The minimum support price of wheat has been raised by ₹150, as declared by the Central government on Wednesday. According to PTI, this is the biggest increase in MSP costs since Narendra Modi took office as the nation's prime minister in 2014.
The 2024-25 marketing season, the MSP per quintal will be ₹2,275.
Under PM Modi's direction, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs made the choice. The MSP is ₹2,125 per quintal for the current season.
Increases in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of all required Rabi crops for the 2024–25 season have been authorised by the panel, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.
Increased to ₹2,275 per quintal for 2024-25 marketing
He further stated that the support price of wheat has been raised from ₹2,125 per quintal in 2023–24 to ₹2,275 per quintal for the 2024–25 marketing season.
The minimum support price, or MSP, is guaranteed to safeguard farmers' interests. Below this price, government procurement agencies will not buy grain.
Increased the MSP of six rabi crops
"We have raised the MSP of six rabi crops in accordance with the CACP's suggestion. "The MSP for wheat has been raised by ₹150 per quintal," he declared.
The primary crop grown in Rabi is wheat, which is harvested in April.
The highest MSP rise of ₹425 per quintal for masoor dal has been authorised by the panel. The MSP for mustard and rapeseed would rise by ₹200 per quintal. The MSP for safflower has been raised by ₹150. The MSP for barley and gramme has been raised by ₹115 and ₹105, respectively.
